This article from The Jerusalem Post speaks of the controversy accumulated in the Middle East from the murder of an injured Syrian man. The claim stated that he was indeed murdered by a Druse mob, however some information had been discovered regarding the identity of the victim, Muntar Khalil. Due to information unearthed by the Free Syrian Army, Khalil has been identified as to actually belonging to the FSA. This controversy has raised concern in the Israeli Druse community due to this claim, as that contradicts the assertions of many Israeli Druse, who "suggest that Khalil was one among numerous Islamist militants operating on the Golan that Israel has provided medical assistance to." Israel's Druse community has also been vocally concerned as well as cognitively, because the events such as these are happening in Syrian areas where many families reside. They are also concerned because "earlier this month members of al-Quaida's Nusra Front affiliate carried out a massacre of 20 Syrian Druze, sparking outcry and fears of genocide against the religious minority." Although the FSA has been considered a minority group due to the amount of actual oppression groups fighting Bashar Assad (the Syrian president), they have been provided with weapons that come from the US and Saudi Arabia.
I chose this article because it really does a good job on shedding light on topics that, I personally believe, us here in the United States are not educated on enough (if at all). I think we really should be caught up on what is going on in the world, especially when it involves us doing things such as providing weapons to other countries in their times of trouble. I don't like the fact that the media has great censorship issues, showing only what they want us to see & 'not have to worry about.' I'd rather be slapped with the truth than kissed with a lie. This particular article sheds light on the political aspect of the Arab-Israeli conflict going on in the Middle East (including the weapon distribution by us), the social conflict of genocide threats within the Druze community and the responsibility of keeping families safe, insight on how the economy is in the Middle East & the controversy of multiple actions being taken all at once to try to fix them.
